Autologous cell therapy products are patient-specific therapies that use cells harvested from a single patient to treat that same patient. Final product release tests that require minimal sampling, produce rapid valid results, and are inexpensive to use is critical because each lot of final product requires testing prior to implantation in the patient.

As it is with so many things in life, how we begin often sets the tone for the entire journey. Bioproduction endeavors are no different. Using robust reagents and developing reproducible procedures at the early stages of your bioprocess is critical to producing a safe and efficacious final product. Upstream process scientists are constantly trying to improve parameters such as growth conditions, media analysis, and optimizing cell lines to ease the burden on downstream purification steps. Determining the best way to begin your bioproduction journey takes a lot of experience and can often seem daunting. However, in this presentation, our panelists will tell us what’s necessary for those initial successful steps.

Dr. Hurley will provide an overview of psychosocial challenges faced by patients deciding to undergo genetic testing. Her presentation will combine research findings from psychosocial research and case illustrations from twenty years of providing psychotherapy to genetic counseling patients. She will provide tips on communication strategies as well as common pitfalls to avoid, and discuss advantages of creating an “information plan” based on patients’ needs, preferences, and ability to absorb emotionally challenging information. Clinical examples will be drawn from Dr. Hurley’s specialty in hereditary cancer risk, with the discussion of how psychosocial issues in genetic testing are relevant across a broad range of conditions, from the prenatal setting to other pediatric- and adult-onset hereditary syndromes.

"Humanized mouse models, where human tumor tissue is engrafted into immunodeficient mouse models, are now being used in oncology and infectious disease studies to provide valuable translational insight. In this webinar, our panel of experts will discuss the successes and caveats of using humanized mouse models to understand disease biology and evaluate therapeutic strategies. Topics to be covered include the use of humanized mice to study tumor biology and to evaluate therapies for infectious disease, including HIV. Attendees will have an opportunity to interact with the experts, ask questions, and seek advice on topics that are unique to their research."
